It would be easy to say that metallic ink is the most striking coating effect SFXC has available. If it is a luxury or stand-out effect you are looking for, metallic ink is the product if you want to add shiny brilliance to any project! In bright weather or the right light, you can really wow your friends or customers. It is an excellent choice to highlight large areas of detail, such as fonts.
Metallic inks are inks combined with a metallic pigment flake. As the ink dries, the metal particles rise to the top of the coating and then reflect ambient light.
Although working with metallic ink is delicate process, the outcome is worth the labour required. Once dry, be careful that the surface or material you are working on is not scratched or rubbed, as this can damage the condition of the coating.
Our product is water based and so it is ideal for use in screen printing and on paper, board and textiles.
Usually, using metallic ink on uncoated, rougher paper or card can produce a less vibrant result than using a coated material, such as glossy paper. This is because on this type of material, the ink will absorb more easily into the grain of the paper, so the brilliancy of the metallic effect can be reduced.
However, if your brief does call for flat/matte paper or board, it is advised to make two or more passes when printing with this type of ink to really make it shine. Be assured, because as these inks are more opaque when compared to other inks, you can use any colour of paper or board you want- darker bases work very well to bring out this special effect. Black and gold are a fantastic combination.
If you would like to try out more metallic effects, SFXC has gold leaf sheets and metallic pigments too!
